Well-known locally, but heavily patrolled. On weekends, in summer and fall, many tourists. Thunder Hill itself (across parkway from overpass) is a great spot for tanning, beautiful outdoor setting with marvelous view. Plenty of places to wander off.

From Hwy 321, north of Blowing Rock, take Parkway exit and turn north. Thunder Hill overlook ca. 1-2 miles on the left. Cross parkway thhrough stile and up the hill to tanning and secluded areas.

  • Warnings:Risky (but possible) to meet stranfers, heavily patrolled, tourists wander through. Have also seen Evangelists proselityzing to 'save' gay souls...
    Warnings: The Blue Ridge Parkway is patrolled by park police, state police, county sheriffs, city cops (Blowing Rock/Asheville) and who knows who else...Stings and occasional crackdowns, particularly hard on public and indecent exposure.
