Is This Your Business?

Ten to fifteen years ago this place was a circus, with cars lined up from end to end of the alley, with guys looking to get or pick up or or whatever. It was always a seedy area (still pretty much is, but not as much since cops cracked down and got rid of drug trafficking, underage Latino hustling trade, and guys cruising for ). I know, I got busted back in '97. It's worth mentioning, though, since the shop is still there, and will probably always lure its share of curious -hunters. The staff in the store is uncool, the place used to have but no longer has an arcade (where other busts were made), and for some there's little reason to risk cruising here. On the other hand, if it's local for you, maybe this is your answer. Sure would like to know what's the latest scoop on this place, as I have good memories (besides the bust) of stuff I did with guys I met here...
Crowd: Married men and ers of all ages. But also underage Latino boy hustlers used to flock here, and with the prostitution and drug traffic, it probably got this area cleaned up big time.

Who's Coming

Married men and cocksuckers of all ages. But also underage Latino boy hustlers used to flock here, and with the prostitution and drug traffic, it probably got this area cleaned up big time.

Several blocks east of Topanga Canyon on Sherman Way, north side of street. Cruisy area used to extend through the entire block around this locale in all directions: alleys, dark corners of buildings, etc. Parking lot behind bookstore (metered) is where heavy cruising used to take place. Action could have taken place on any side streets; intelligent cruisers would drive away together to other, darker locales to get it on.
Cross street: Owensmouth & Remmet

  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Be on alert for vice! The shop is still here, so the likelihood that this place is cruisy will always exist, and while I've been past and seen no action anywhere to speak of (not even guys hanging out to make eye contact and go elsewhere), that doesn't mean that the place isn't active. The police worked hard over the years to eradicate drug trafficking and underage Latino prostitution, so they may patrol to ensure the place stays clean. Keep a very low profile, and don't do too much loitering.
Cruisiest Spots: Used to be the alcove in a pass through in a small building complex on the corner of Gault and Owensmouth (one block south of bookstore), where you could show up and get or -- mostly married white guys with big knew about and frequented the place; it's gated over now. Chances are anyplace in the vicinity of the bookstore is a likely place to make eye contact -- just make sure you take the guy back to your place "for coffee" and avoid getting busted by vice.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:Cops that cracked down on the place. Uncool staff in bookstore. Area so cleaned up that it's difficult to tell whether cruising is still possible. Use caution!
