Presented by Make Yourself Useful: The Anti-Racist Holiday Preparedness Party! Let's gather, discuss and strategize how to initiate productive, open conversations with loved ones about racism and the attendant implications of the impending Trump administration. Such conversations with family members, especially at the holidays, are often most difficult - and most meaningful. All are invited to attend. We will fill out worksheets and do group role plays in order to strategize for conversations about white supremacy. Lots of good ideas for implementing such interactions have been floating around online - let's develop and rehearse these in an IRL, safe setting. To this end, we will set agreements at the beginning of the party as a group. We'll also have plenty of treats and drinks to keep things festive, and a separate "chill" hang zone set aside with essential oils. Make Yourself Useful is a network of people committed to actively fortifying POC-led racial justice movements in Chicago and beyond. As people working to earn the chance to be accomplices in these struggles, we are initiating an experimental reading group, dedicated to lovingly holding each other and ourselves accountable in our quest to unlearn racism and confront white supremacy. We are also a mobilization body concentrated on the development of concrete ways to move up and move back, standing in direct and available solidarity with black and brown organizers. We are committed to making ourselves useful to the revolution for racial justice. The gallery is wheelchair accessible - please call Claire at 847-567-0473 for entry.
