The Mall, SW1

Is This Your Business?

Three cubicles and four '-pot' urinals. Extraordinarily noisy extractor fan changes note when someone is entering Gents through outer of two doors - good warning mechanism. Tight space inside ensures good security for understall players, 'cos it's hard to stand back far enough to see under the cubicle doors without bending well down (and any who do this are likely to be players themselves - note, this is private property, so no coppers. Also, no security men and the cleaners only visit once or twice a day).
Crowd: Students, culture vultures, and those in the know.

Neighbourhood: St James's

Who's Coming

Students, culture vultures, and those in the know.

Nearest Tube station is Charing Cross. Turn westwards out of the station, cross below Trafalgar Square, across the top of Northumberland Avenue, then cross Whitehall, then under Admiralty Arch and into The Mall. The ICA is on the left (north) side of the Mall, just beside the steps up to Waterloo Place. Less than 5 mins walk from the Tube station, ICA entrance is clearly marked. Gents is on the LH side of the foyer, just inside the double doors.

    Tues - Sat: midday - 1.00 a.m.

Best times: Lunchtimes and after 5.00. Haven't tried the evenings.
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:This is a very small lav in the Institute of Contemporary Arts, a cinema/ gallery/ bookshop/ cafe complex. There is a 4-position enquiry desk with a clear view of the Gents' entrance, but this is often busy with customers. If you're nervous of being spotted, turn R into the bookshop for a while before entering Gents.
Cruisiest Spots: Mainly understall fun, some at urinals. Anyone reasonably fit can slide their lower bod under the partitions.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:Not enough traffic. I first went there in late-April 2006 and have had several great encounters, but these were two few and far between. So, come on, lads! Stop complaining that all the best places are going and add some fizz to this cosy little indoor cottage.
