“A League of Their Own” was released in July of 1992. To honor and celebrate this film's 25th Anniversary, CinéWilde will be hosting a special screening of this classic on July 14th. Helmed by female director (unfortunately still rare these days) Penny Marshall, “A League of Their Own” is packed full of Oscar winners and nominees (Geena Davis, Madonna, David Strathairn, and of course, Tom Hanks) and one out & proud lesbian, Rosie O’Donnell. Full of strong female characters, “A League of Their Own” examines something we in the LGBT community still wrestle with today, finding a place in a society that doesn’t understand and is quick to hate. During World War II, Rosie the Riveter asked women to step up and pick up where their brothers, fathers, and lovers left off when they were enlisted in the military. From assembly lines, to steel mills, to mechanic shops, this period in American History revealed women could function and succeed outside the kitchen or classroom. “A League of Their Own” explores another venue women excelled in, the baseball field. But move over WWII and women’s roles, this film also tackles sibling rivalry, struggling to redeem a career and reputation, and the age old debate of family vs. work. And it does it all with intelligent humor and engrossing characters. Come out and experience what of a league of our own feels like at CinéWilde! 8:00pm - Pre Show Discussion 8:30pm - Film 11:00pm- Post Screening Concert featuring "Party Static"
