WHERE:

Potential Protest Trump Anti-LGBTQ Executive Order, Chicago

DESCRIPTION:

IF (WHEN) TRUMP ATTACKS LGBTQ PEOPLE, WE WILL RESIST! Several news sources have reported that President Trump will likely very soon issue an order repealing LGBT protections in federal employment, including firms that contract with the federal government. Other LGBT protections on the chopping block may include equal adoption rights for same-sex couples. Whatever the specific provisions of Trump’s actions, their aim will be to dehumanize the LGBTQ community and thus open the way for more widespread discrimination and violence against us. We have already seen this in actions the new administration has taken against Muslims and immigrants, and must not only be prepared to respond to direct attacks against LGBTQs, but remembering that we are a RAINBOW community, must continue to respond to these bigoted attacks whether they specifically target LGBTQs or not. In the event that Trump announces an executive order abolishing LGBTQ protections, a group of activists has come together to organize a response THE SAME DAY with a protest at Chicago’s Trump Tower at Wabash Avenue and the Chicago River. Likely timing for Trump’s announcement is the National Prayer Breakfast on Friday, Feb. 2nd, so this Facebook event page is dated on that day SIMPLY AS A PLACEHOLDER. The announcement could come any day. Please indicate you are “going” to this event so that you will receive notice of the actual day of the protest once we know it.
