WHERE:

8th Annual DARLA Ceremony, Philadelphia

DESCRIPTION:

GALAEI, a queer Latin@ social justice organization based in Philadelphia, invites you to celebrate influential leaders in our community at the annual David Acosta Revolutionary Leadership Award ("DARLA"). This year’s theme “Celebrating Queer Latinx Resistance” will highlight all the ways in which the queer Latinx community of Philadelphia remains resilient during this adverse political climate. The current political climate has activated many new activists and social justice supporters focused on addressing racist and discriminatory policies from local, state, and federal institutions. GALAEI has remained committed to ensuring our work focuses on advocating for our community. DARLA honorees exemplify those who have cultivated positive change in the queer Latinx communities through activism, education, or a continued commitment to empowering GALAEI. Past honorees of DARLA awards have included the late Gloria Casarez, Jose de Marco, Ada Bello, Louie Ortiz and The Philadelphia Foundation. At DARLA, honorees and attendees will enjoy performances, view youth artwork illustrating latinx resistance, DJ, dancing, complimentary appetizers and open bar.
