Transparency: An LGBTQ Glass Art Exhibition, Philadelphia

DESCRIPTION:

This temporary glass art exhibition is part of the National Liberty Museum’s LGBTQ+ Pride Month Activities (Photo courtesy of Pearl Dick For more than 40 years, LGBTQ+ identifying people have gathered in the month of June to commemorate their struggles, celebrate their identities, and advocate for their communities. What we now call “LGBT Pride Month” or simply “Pride” is a worldwide phenomenon that reminds us that the freedom to live our truth is necessary for a liberated society. For Pride 2017, the National Liberty Museum will host the nation’s FIRST museum exhibit of studio glass works produced exclusively by artists of the LGBTQ+ community. We are very excited to present this celebration of identity and freedom at the National Liberty Museum, and we hope that you will visit as we showcase the diverse subjects, methods, and styles explored by glass artists in the LGBTQ+ community. The works featured were chosen by the artists themselves, in keeping with the spirit of self-advocacy and creative self-expression. Transparency strives to emphasize the importance of being transparent and honest about identity, a hallmark of liberty and creative freedom. Featuring the works of over 15 glass artists, this exhibit will be open for viewing during all Museum hours of operation from Friday, June 2 through Sunday, August 6. It is included with your Museum admission. #glassaccesstransparency http://www.libertymuseum.org/event/transparency-lgbtq-glass-art-exhibition/
