  • This is called "Hoyt's Crossing." It's a nice spot, but used to be better and more secluded before the trails were improved by the park system. A much better location is "Edwards Crossing," a few miles upstream, but takes less time to get to from Nevada City. To get to Edwards Crossing from Nevada City, take North Bloomfield Rd North from its intersection with Hwy 49. Go approx 6.5 miles. The road narrows the last mile or so as it winds down into the river canyon. Parking area is just before the bridge. Cross the bridge on foot and take the trail to the left downstream about 10 minutes, cross the small creek that empties into the river, then continue downstream another two to five minutes for the best locations. Plenty of great swimming holes, waterfalls, small sandy beaches and cruisy nooks and crannies.
