Hammersmith Bridge Tow Path

Is This Your Business?

This is a path along the river, bushes and trees on one side and the river and trees on the other. The only light is from the other side of the river and the moon; most people pick up and walk down the path for privacy. The path goes on for about 3 miles before reaching civilization, so there?s not much chance of being disturbed by walkers all out full on in bucketfuls.
Crowd: Old/young, sub/dom and so called 'straight curious'.

Neighbourhood: Castelnau SW13

Dates open: 9 pm until dawn.
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Take , poppers seem to be very popular.
Cruisiest Spots: 30 yards from bridge.
  • Nudity / Policy:Yes / I get naked.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:cruiser update 4/27/2009: Reference to IRA is seriously out of date. The area under the bridge is well lit to prevent terrorist attack but the rest of the towpath either side remains fine for nighttime cruising.

There is cruisng in the first 100 yards east of the bridge. The towpath is then slightly spoiled by the brightly-lit Harrods Village development but once past that it gets darker again and more possible. Policeboats occasionally beam seachlights onto the bush line but you usually can hear the boat in time.

Some prefer the stretch beyond the Barn Elms Boat House just into LB of Wandsworth towards Putney. Others prefer going quite the other side of Hammersmith Bridge beyond St Pauls School playing fields (you are too backlit there) heading towards Barnes Bridge - the towpath strip widens to 50 yards and it is nice and quiet overlooking the nature reserve reservoir.

As everywhere else, be alert to late night dog exercising and silent cyclists sweeping up on you.

previous comment: The IRA keeps trying to blow up the bridge, hence it's closed to traffic for repairs. For the second time.
