cruiser update 3/18/2009: I took a run (actually a very long walk) up to the castle this weekend. There was some sign of activity(pic 4), but since the long road is closed till May 1 you have to take the trails to get there or walk about six miles on the road. The trail is marked white at the bottom end and includes an uphill climb of about 300 feet at about a 50 degree incline. It was slow going till I got my second wind. It did allow me to see the area I think they are talking about in the current description. The trail up top is marked as blue (in attached pic 5) and the "camp" area I think is the flat that is shown in picture 6. Attaching some photos for the cruise listing. Beautiful vistas in all directions. Too bad I was the only nut case who took the challenge. I was literally all alone for miles.

Previous comment: Two main areas- (a)follow path to left of first big open area, and turn left at large stump. Cross brook and you'll see "camp" site. Or continue and follow trail to right of camp and turn left, go up hill till the end (long walk) and turn right, continue to clearing.

whos coming to Hubbard Park

  • Stopped by today. The gate is open and I was able to drive up to the top. It's confusing. As you enter the park it's one-way. If you drive straight up there's a little parking area near the woods that seems to be pretty popular. And full. Taking the long road to the castle there are some pull-offs here and there and a fork where you can take the high road or the low road. Since I was going up, I took the upward road. Nope. Ends in a medium sized parking lot at a power station. There were two cars. One empty and one I think some guy was getting blown by his girlfriend. Taking the low road gets you to the top, and there seem to be a few people eating and walking around. Also some teens in a car driving up and down the road. The question is where would one go to find friends? The small lot at the beginning of the park, the medium lot half way up or the main lot at the top? There are tons of trails and a few gravel turnoffs as well. A nice place to have lunch anyway.
