I DON’T KNOW HER: A DIVA DANCE PARTY an AWWFUL party A diva (/ ‘ di:va/;) is a celebrated female singer; a woman of outstanding talent, or as Beyonce once famously said, the “female version of a hustler” But to be a diva is not only to be outstanding - it is not only about the voice, the hooks, the moves, or the sales - it is about The Attitude. The diva attitude is one of CONFIDENCE in the face of adversary - “adversary” being anything from self-doubt, slut-shaming, fuckboys or, in Mariah Carey’s case, Jennifer Lopez. Femmes and queer folks have embraced and celebrated divas since the dawn of time (name one iconic diva who’s fanbase is not 90% femme and queer?) because they EXUDE that confidence and share it with those of us who need it most. (Can you imagine listening, dancing and screaming along to “Believe”, the record breaking smash hit recorded by Cher, and not feeling better about the asshole who ghosted you? Nope. Many a scorned gay owe their lives to that track.) FRIDAY JULY 14 - BAR LE RITZ P.D.B WE GATHER FOR A FULL NIGHT OF DIVA HITS AND BATHE IN THE BEAUTY THAT IS FEMALE STRENGTH & PERSEVERANCE AND CELEBRATE THE WOMEN WHO GET US THRU THIS THING CALLED LIFE Dj AWWFUL (Glitter Bomb, Girl Pop Theme Nites @ Ritz, NDQ resident) http://www.soundcloud.com/awwful 10$ PWYC 18+ *** Bar “Le Ritz” PDB is on the ground floor. Some parts of the bar have a higher floor than others, but there are ramps installed to ascend or descend between the these levels. Bathrooms contain wheelchair accessible stalls. There is some seating but limited. Washrooms will be gender neutral for the event. Send the host a message if you have concerns about accessibility. ♡ I DON'T KNOW HER acknowledges that it takes place on stolen land, on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka. The Kanien’kehá:ka are the keepers of the Eastern Door of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The island called “Montreal” is known as Tiotia:ke in the language of the Kanien’kehá:ka, and it has historically been a meeting place for other Indigenous nations, including the Algonquin peoples. ////FRENCH INFO TO COME////
