cruiser update 12/8/2008: Sign at entrance today indicated that as of 12/12 the rest area will only be accessible to trucks.

cruiser update 8/14/2008: (As of last night) Hi. Building is closed (as posted) But they are working inside it, doing what, I don't know. There were tools and materials on the floor inside last night with the lights on. There was also an old sink they ripped out and left outside on the concrete. Also, at night, it is pitch black except for the lights of the 3 remaining vending machines.
There are 4 sets a 3 side by side porta-johns. Two sets on each side (car side and trucker side) Not all have s in them. The only way to get to the trucker side is to walk all around the barb-wire fence or go thru the sometimes open part next to the building.

previous comment: It's basically a great rest area. The bathrooms are busy, busy, busy. Lots of understall activity, sometimes even doubling up in stalls. I've shot at least 80 loads there in the last 2 years.

whos coming to I-287 Northbound Rest Area

  • I drove by there on Saturday night despite the signs for trucks only, just to see if it was happening. The area where the cars used to be are fenced up and the NJDOT trucks are parking there now. You can drive through the truck area but I didn't bother parking since I didn't want to get in trouble.

  • I'm very disappointed! I pass it every night on the way home from work. I used to love stopping there for quick relief. If any of you regulars would like to meet up somewhere else let me know.

  • I agree - this used to be a good cruising spot but no more. I didn't know about the most recent chnages there and when I ppulled in yesterday I saw that it was open only to 18 wheelers. It looks like this is going to be a staging area for the NJDOT vehicles. Too bad!

  • That sucks! This was a great place. I had so many good times here. Had so many guys and truckers shoot their loads on my leather jackets. I'm gonna miss it!

  • As of 12/12 the Rest Area will be only accessible to trucks per the big sign at the entrance I saw today. Another one bites the dust. Enjoy it while it lasts.

  • I want to be barebacked in a truckers sleeper and passed around. How do you approach the truckers?

  • Hey guys,
Which way to go when you get to the entrance ramp. Truck side to the left. Or car side to the right?

  • I was there at about 4-5pm but didn't find any action at all. Nothing. What is the best time to be there?

  • Adding to leathercoat's comment... if you aren't comfortable here, you and your new found friend can go one exit up to Harter Rd and at the end of the exit turn RIGHT - follow the road to the end and there's a nature trail that you can follow.

If any truckers care to post - I'd want to know about signalling to be able to get into the cab and have some fun! I can't imagine just walking around the parking lot between the trucks - what's the secret signal to be able to hook up in a Peterbuilt cab?!
