  • The Train has been removed as the NYS Dpt of Transportation is planning a renovation of the rest area. The Fence is no longer a chain link - but a solid wood structure which completely blocks access to the wooded area. While a few boards were removed, there is no escape or logical reason to be behind the fence, What's more, the train which blocked the view of guys going into the woods is gone - so you are totally exposed.

  • The editor is 100% right. Arrests have been made as of last summer. Cops lying in wait in woods. Try westbound side. Not as many places, but when foliage is out it's ok. Some advice: if the cops come in, DON'T pull right out, that's too suspicious. Also, if you pull in and there's a cop there, DON'T just drive through, there's no "legit" reason for that. STOP and either pretend like your getting ready to relax or use a pay phone. Then you can go if you feel uncomfortable.

  • The eastbound side is where the train is, but the westbound side is also active. In fact, I will be there tonight after midnight. If the cops come in, simply look like you belong there. Numerous weary travelers use this location for sleeping, etc. so they don't hassle you too much. As always, use your head.

  • if this is where i think it is, it's just east of exit 52 on the l.i.e. there are stops on both sides of the road and the train car is on the eastbound side.
