Strathcona Park

areas

Is This Your Business?

Head south down the path along the river, towards the Queensway. Eyes open; guys friendly usually. Dark enough to find private spots in bushes (which are everywhere). Be aware that sometimes straight people walk through the area, especially early evening-- it is a nice tranquil spot. On hot summer nights, sometimes rowdy groups of teens smoking up and partying, at picnic tables in the park itself.
Crowd: Mostly over 30, all types.

  • I lived in Ottawa from 1986 to 1995 (visiting occasionally in 1998, 2000 and 2004). From '86 to '95, I will be honest & say that every year from spring to autumn, almost every night, I was in Strathcona Park. It was great: always many guys about. Some nights at the weekends, there could be up to 20 - 25 guys on a warm night til 2-3 am. I notived in 2000 and 2004 that the pickings were slim. So I am not surprised to hear that hardly anyone goes now. Sad really. I have so, so, so many good memories of hot action there with so many guys over the years. I also noticed in 2004 when I last visited that police went through and the bushes were radically trimmed. Oh well, this is the new world we live in. Gays are free to marry and be open about their sexuality but some of the best spots for gay cruising were taken away.

  • Live near by, It was very quiet all summer met only 6 guys in total, cops patrol after 11pm often, getting colder at night now but next week(First week of November supposed to be warm for the week) may venture over in the early evenings.

  • Yesterday I was at River Rain Park on River Road from 10:45pm until 11:30pm no one was around so I went to the park on the other side of the Rideau River >> Strathcona Park on Range Road. I stayed there from 11:30pm until Midnight no guys were around in this park either. Back in the 80's and early 90's both places would have been hopping. Did anyone see any cruising there this Summer at night / late night ??

  • Just moved to the area last fall (2007) ,I have been there almost everyday when it isnt raining I take a stroll till 10:45P M, pretty dead, the odd guy once in a while, not as it used to be years ago. The Ottawa Police patrol near 11P M and drive down the path in the wooded section with a jeep with there red lights flashing.

Crackerjacks hang out on the steps of one side(near Laurier-watch out for used needles!)

Actually under the new by-law no one is allowed in the park after 11PM daily, you will be arrested and fined and maybe hauled away.

Soon to be microphoned with a warning LEAVE THE PARK, then Video camera Survellance--BIG BROTHER WILL BE WATCHING!!!

    Whats the world coming too!!

  • That may just drive a few guys over to the park on the other side of the Rideau River - River Rain Park on River Road which is a topic in here on page 3. The field seems bigger with trees to go behind and some bush area for cover plus no lights along the bike path. River Rain Park like Strathcona Park were great in the 80's early 90's for latenight cruising back in the day.

  • Has there been any night cruising action here this summer ? This is StrathconaPark on RangeRoad off of LaurierAve.E. and SomersetStr.E. Was there any cruising action here last Summer ? usually between the hours of 10pm / 11pm to Midnight / 1am. I used to cruise here some nights in the late 80's early 90's prefer daytime cruising afternoons - early evenings, so I go to Hurdman bush but I may check out Strathcona one night this Summer if guys still cruise there. Parking lot is near SomersetStr.E. path from the lot brings you on to the lighted bike path going left brings you to the end of the park no more bushes there anymore though going right has more secluded spots and brings you further down to a open field used for(football / soccer) towards the Queensway. When those Odyssey Theatre Groups would perform their plays in the park, guys usually would go to RiverRainPark on the other side of the river which has no lights along its path.

  • Have gone tanning here quite a bit lately and seen lots of eye candy ... perhaps even JasonTan..? Also, swung by here late one night and encouraged another fellow to follow along. A little risky with the RCMP in the parking lot nearly, but we were quiet...
