Playa del Carmen Gay Hotels

5ta. Avenida y calle 10 norte

Playa del Carmen

Hotel Basico is not an exclusively gay hotel, however, if you are a gay jet-setter and looking for the best, designer place to stay in Playa del Carmen, this is it. It is very popular with gay clientele. The hotel's design is uber-cool and outlandish - on 4 different levels, everything is made from unrendered white concrete, with odd finishings such as huge tyres on the wall or two industrial vats which are the swimming pool, 1960s black and white films projected onto a wall, 1960s polaroid cameras chained to the bed, a glitterball hanging on the end of the toilet chain, or glowing neon in the rooms, which create a constant tension. Many wealthy (and not so wealthy) gay guys and girls stay here. The staff are all young, easy going, and as the guestbook says "there are some very pretty young men working here". This is a wonderful place for gay couples or lesbians just to hang out and enjoy gay Playa del Carmen. The open air rooftop terrace, with its 2 small pools and bar are ideal for lounging or making friends, and the disco beats and party feel last to the early hours.

Avenida 10 Y Calle 22

Playa del Carmen

This is a very clean and comfortable and calm retreat. About 30 rooms, all have phones (use calling card for long distance), A/C & ceiling fans. There is a computer for internet access at the front desk. Other room amenities vary depending on your price range. See the website for rates and features. Rooms are cleaned daily, always immaculate, and a different towel oragami arrangement awaits your return at the end of the day.

There is an on-site restaurant and bar, both of which have good drinks and good food. Unlike American hotels where the hotel restaurant is something to avoid, the food here ranks among the best in Playa.

It makes it a great place to have a drink with other guests after a day at the beach, and to have breakfast and dinner and also get acquainted. In the event it rains, it's nice to spend the day in the restaurant under the palapa and read a good book or play cards with other guests.

The hotel is located only a 5 minute walk from the popular 5th Avenue Pedesrian Walkway with shops, restaurants, and the local gay bar, Club 69 located at Calle 6.

It is also only a 5 minute walk to the coast. For a day at the local gay beach, see the listing for directions to Coco Beach.

Thus, it is in a great location, close to everything you need, but far enough away that it is quiet at night.

The owner is gay and very nice and particular in how he runs his hotel. He watches his staff like a hawk and is very attentive to guests needs and comfort. All the guests are adult and there is a loyal clientele.

If you meet someone at the beach during the day, or at night at the local gay bar, Club 69, you can comfortably bring them back to your room, with no hassles from management or the night security...just don't bring half a dozen and disturb other guests. Obnoxious or noisy guests have been asked to leave in order to maintain the comfort of the other guests. This is not a party hotel or bath-house type hotel, but is friendly and open.
Crowd: Gay boys from the US,Canada & Europe. Straight but not narrow couples from Europe (Italy, Scandanavia, France, etc) and South America (Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil)
