Is This Your Business?

This is the big hill on the west side of the Fraser River in west Quesnel that has the reservoir and communication towers at the top. It's called Sugarload Mtn. but really it's just a big hill and not a long or hard trip to the top. There is basically a large flat treed area with trails in the bushes for cruising. As a bonus there are spectacular 360 degree views out across the city. It is not a tourist area and there is seldom any of the general public that ever wander up there.

Neighbourhood: Westside

Cross the bridge over the Fraser River into West Quesnel and continue on this wide (4 lane) main street (Anderson Drive) getting into the right hand lane. Turn right at the first set of lights (at the 7-11) onto Baker Drive and take the left fork in the road. Continue on Baker Drive heading toward the hill with the reservoir and communication towers that is easily seen looming ahead. The road curves to the left at the bottom of the hill. Continue a short distance until you see the sign that reads "Sugarloaf Ball Park" and turn right into the parking lot. Park on the right side at the end of the lot and you will see a gated roadway leading up the hill. Walk around the barrier and continue up the hill until you reach the reservoir. When you get to the reservoir keep left and follow the trail to the top of the hill and here you will find several trails in the bushes and plenty of evidence of past activity.
  • Hours:Access here is available 24/7 but I would think that from noon until early evening would probably be the best times. If you arrive at the parking lot and there are no other cars around I would suggest that there is probably no one at the top. If there were one or more vehicles and no ball game in progress I would suggest you might very well be in luck!
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:The usual sensible tips for cruising apply. There is little lighting but after dark it is still easy to see your way around due to all the light from the surrounding city.
  • Nudity / Policy:I personally know a member who had arranged to meet a 30 yr old guy there one noon and found him totally nude bent over a rail...and of course did what just came naturally!
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No / It would depend on the type of handicap...a motorized wheel chair could make it as far as the reservoir.
  • Warnings:I'm not aware of any.
