Is This Your Business?

Access to the lake and park is free. You arrive at a parking lot (also free). From there, it's a short walk down the main trail to the lake itself. The view is beautiful, except for traffic noise from the highway nearby. There is also a 2.1-kilometre trail around the lake and through the woods that is very easy to walk.

Neighbourhood: Malahat

Spectacle Lake Provincial Park and Spectacle Lake are accessed via Whittaker and Spectacle Lake Roads north of the Malahat, about 2 km west of Highway 1, and 19 miles (30 km) northwest of Victoria. Travelling north on Highway 1, the turn-off you want is a few hundred metres north of the Shawnigan Lake turn-off. You'll see a badly designed sign that says Spectacle Lake 2 km. If you measure 2 km from that point, you'll have gone too far -- from that point, it's only a couple of hundred metres or so to the turn off, so move into the left lane and prepare to turn left as the hill begins to crest. After turning off, turn right and then follow the road. Where it forks, take the bend to the left, otherwise you'll end up at the Aerie Resort. Follow the road, as it bends a few times, and eventually you'll see a very heavily shaded path leading straight ahead as the road continues to bend to the left. Because of on-coming traffic, drive slowly along the heavily shaded path, which takes you directly to the parking lot.
  • Hours:This is one of the area's undiscovered places with a lot of potential. During the summer, it can get a bit busy as the nature lovers come out to play in the lake. During the winter, the lake often freezes over and is a great place to do some outdoor skating. The best times of day for cruising are in the evening during the summer, when the day-trippers have started heading home. During the off-season, on a lightly rainy day, it's a great private place to hook up.
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:The woods aren't dense enough for really private places to play outdoors, so keep your eyes open for intrepid hikers or passers-by. The outhouse is too small, and too accessible to the main path -- your groans of pleasure or pain will be heard. Sound travels very easily across the lake, so keep it down unless you exhibitionist about such things. Mostly, it's a good place to meet up, cruise a bit, chat, and make plans to go elsewhere. From the parking lot, as you face the main trail, there is another, smaller trail to your left that quickly joins the main trail again. If you begin by cruising someone in the parking lot, this smaller trail can be a good place to go if you want things to get more intimate, away from the prying eyes of other parkers, but beware of foot traffic from the parking lot.
  • Nudity / Policy:If you can find a sufficiently secluded spot, the woods are yours to expose yourself to.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No / This location is not really accessible to those with physical limitations because the terrain, while easy to walk, is too rough for a wheelchair.
  • Warnings:This location is generally very quiet and clean. Please, let's keep it that way.
