An area of woods near to the entrance to Welbeck Colliery. On the map shown as Gleadthorpe Breck Plantation. Several old war-time structures exist and some give good shelter.
Well away from road is an intact underground shelter - not easy to find though as it is off the main tracks

Neighbourhood: Cuckeny

On the A616. If travelling from Sheffield direction on A616 cross the A60 at Cuckney and continue towards Ollerton for about 1 mile and pass the entrance to Welbeck Colliery on the right. There is a pull-in in 200 metres on the left and an Official layby in a further 200 metres with a pull-in opposite.

  • Hours:Pretty well any time. Seems to be quite good mid morning and lunchtime and between 5-6pm in weekdays. Evenings and weekends can vary.
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Best in Summer when most cover from trees. Some spots better sheltered than others and at pull-in nearest Colliery entrance some rhodendron bushes give good cover although one nearest the road have been removed.
  • Nudity / Policy:Never seen anyone nude but some cover which could be OK.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No / Not too good for handicap access - very uneven ground and fallen trees to climb over in places.
  • Warnings:Late summer and late autumn the area is swarming with families and children collecting 'conkers' and nuts so best avoided at those times.
