Ponds, The - Nude Sunbathing Area
The Ponds (the females have their own too, a beautifully grass & tree-ed location, which should really be the men's GGGGGRRRRHHH) have been a Male Institution for well over a Century. It is the site of an old gravel pit with ducks and swans, through which the River Strand flows (merely a small trickle at this stage). There was always a tradition of nude sunbathing, but in recent years, about a third of the area has been partitioned off for nude only use, the remainder being used for changing purposes or clad sunbathing. The location could not possibly be called idyllic, being a concreted area in an ugly compound, but nevertheless "fun" and contact can be "had". This is especially true, as you are packed in like sardines - if the thought of "very" close proximity to a nude male appeals to you - then The Ponds are for you! There is also a "cottage" on site, but the homophobic lifeguards keep an "eagle-eye" on it - so don't make too many visits! By the way, you have to wear trunks to swim and be sure to keep your mouth shut (remember those ducks?) and a "cold" shower after your swim is a necessity!

Catch 214 bus from Kings X OR 21 or C2 (originating from Oxford Circus) from Kentish Town Tube (Then walk up Highgate West Hill and turn left into Millfield Lane) OR North London Line to Gospel Oak and then walk. You can usually park your car (free at the moment) in Millfield Road or Merton Lane (get there very early if you want to find a space on weekends or Bank Holidays).

Warnings: This is NOT an exclusively gay preserve, but looking around the nude section, it is usually difficult to see a str8 in sight.
