  • Closure notice from the National Park Service website.......

In compliance with NASA directives Canaveral National Seashore at Playalinda Beach in Brevard county will close at 6:00 pm on May 7, 2009, in preparation for the May 11th Atlantis Shuttle Launch STS-125. In addition, NASA camera installation security measures require that parking lot number 5 at Apollo Beach (located in Volusia County) be closed to vehicles and boats beginning on May 6, 2009. While this section is closed, visitors will not be permitted beyond parking area # 4.
Both of these closures will remain in effect until the day after a successful launch. All dates and times are tentative, and are subject to revision or extension by NASA.

Which means.......Playalinda Beach at Titusville will be closed completely tomorrow. If you go to the New Smyrna side, you can get to the beach but it will be closed to visitors past parking lot #4.....so the part of the beach you want to visit will be closed.

  • Im wanting to go there or the one in Volusia, but I am a little worried the park may be closed due to the shuttle launch tomorrow afternoon. I would hate to make that long drive. If you know if these two parks close the day before the launch, please respond or add a comment.

  • Anybody going to be out there this week? How far do most people go when they go out there past the last parking lot?

  • Hey Volk, don't despair, probably just wasn't a good day for it. It can be hit or miss and it hasn't gotten into the prime beach weather yet. So be sure to try again. Weekends are usually better too.

  • I was out there for a little while....I had on a white hat and a blue backpack...... I sat down at the end by myself...Didn't see really anything that caught my eye. A lot of couples, but no one really looked interested in me. If you saw me and are interested let me know.

  • Fulcrum it's best on weekends but any day is good. The best time I've had there was a Friday. If it's a warm sunny day you can count on it.

  • Hey, French Canadian here coming down from the cold and would love to know exactly how to get to this pace and experience the action on a beach. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I think the instructions on how to get there is vague. I will be coming from Sanford. So your help is required. Thanks
