La Jolla Av (Sta Monica-Melrose)

Is This Your Business?

Cruisers in cars hang out behind the Gold Coast bar all night (and all day, actually), in the parking lot. Hustlers work this area, as well as the length of La Jolla Ave, which cruisers drive up and down and up and down endlessly, looking for Mr. Right. Those that are serious get down to business at the Melrose end of La Jolla where JO, , and more for the intrepid (or stupid) takes place in shady, or partly concealed areas between businesses and right up against or adjacent to residential. This is risky business, as the cops do patrol and vice have arrested on many occasions. Best to meet someone here and go elsewhere, or do quick BJs and be done with it. Encouraging the hustlers is also AYOR.
Crowd: There are a lot of 2-bit hustlers who work this street, but you will just as likely find hot boys or men in their 30s or 40s looking to hook up. It's a mix, mostly. Lots of regulars.

La Jolla Avenue runs from Santa Monica Boulevard at the north end to (and beyond) Melrose Ave on the south. Alleys that run parallel to Santa Monica and Melrose are especially cruisy for JO, , or by brazen types. Parking is anywhere you can, but heed the parking restrictions (and especially the "no turns" signs or cops will seem to appear out of nowhere and cite you).

  • Hours:Sundown to sunup. Obviously active when traffic exists; especially active towards 2 am and thereafter (when the bars let out and , drunk, gay men are on the prowl).
Best times: Try to keep your wits about you late at night because cops in black & whites do patrol the streets and alleyways of this neighborhood. I've seen them there at 1 am, alternatively at 2 am, etc. This is definitely AYOR.

  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Watch for the cops at all times, vice and otherwise. Buddies have gotten busted. But stuff goes on all the time, regardless. Lots of cruisers seem programmed to drive endlessly (what's with that???) Be discreet whatever you do, and clean up after yourself if you can remember to...
Cruisiest Spots: Building next to the dry cleaners at La Jolla & Melrose has alley that is popular for and more. Behind Moustache Cafe is a dark alcove next to somebody's house that guys use to JO and . Hey, it's crazy here in West Hollywood!
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:Hustlers, tweaking kids who should be in bed, typical WeHo attitude that pervades the whole town. One really obnoxious guy who busts in on any/all goings on and inserts himself -- he's a slob. He says he lives on this street, and I see him cruising just about every other time I'm there. Also, ing in the upper balcony of the office building next to the dry cleaners is not only dumb but easy to see from the streets -- you're begging for arrest, as well as begging for others to be arrested. Exhibitionists may ultimately spoil this place for everyone.

whos coming to La Jolla Av (Sta Monica-Melrose)

  • The main alleyway everyone used between the dry cleaner and some offices where Melrose and La Jolla intersect has been fenced off with chain link and taped with yellow Police tape. This seemed to happen not long after the post about the location appeared here on cruise. If anyone doesn't believe police check these websites on cruising, think again. THEY DO. There has been a big crack down.
