Fall Creek Rest Area

Is This Your Business?

This is a small state park type area. The walk along the creek is nice even if the cruising isn't.
Crowd: Mostly middle class and working class older guys, but have seen some younger guys there as well (I am one of them!)

Neighbourhood: Rural

Who's Coming

Mostly middle class and working class older guys, but have seen some younger guys there as well (I am one of them!)

I-72 west from Jacksonville, IL or I-72 east from Hannibal, MO to I-172 towards Quincy, it will be the first exit (Marblehead) before you go up a big hill. Exit and turn right onto the highway (heading east). Take the next county road to the left and the place is on the right. There are lots of signs.

There is also a second area if you go past the main entrance to the park and take the next road to the left and park along the fence and walk down to the stone bridge.
Cross street: I-172 at Marblehead Exit - south of Quincy

    Best times: Weekends and evenings
Dates open: The upper portion closes in the winter.
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Take the drive to the top of the hill and park at the back of the circle drive.

  • There is also a very pretty spot with a small water fall and bluffs at the main parking area as you enter. Take the trail along the creek; nice place to get banged.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:Irregular.
Warnings: The police have been known to put decoys out so be careful about being too forward; usually it is conservation officers. Also, I believe there is a camera mounted on a tree to the right as you enter; you have to look close; so don't drive in and out too many times I suppose.

  • Was there earlier this fall and surprised to see some cruising. Got to play a bit with one. It reminded me of the old days when that place was great. As far as the trouper living across from the park goes, he doesn't own the park and has no right to put his nose in other people's business. He is no moral authority and has no business in the park at all. That is not his job nor is it in his job description. Illinois state police have no justification for targeting people in parks except to promot bigotry.

They are not protecting or serving anyone but themselves and their religious beliefs. Oddly enough I have a feeling there are more troupers wanting action than wanting to arrest lonely people.

  • This used to be a gr8 place to cruise but unfortunately it's not at all safe anymore. Arrests with prosecution are on the increase.

  • Just be aware that the beautiful log house opposite the entrance is owned by a state patrolman.
