The link above is very close, there are no houses /street numbers out here. There's a dam west of the star on the map. From Rockaway: Green Pond Road to Upper Hibernia, turn left on Split Rock Road follow over dam, park on left in parking area. From Boonton- Take Boonton Ave to Rockaway Valley turn right on Split Rock Rd follow until parking area on the right.

  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Hang in your car to connect, toilet, & numerous paths to follow into the woods.
    Cruisiest Spots: There's only one official parking area, it's on Split Rock Road, east of the dam.

  • Warnings:Use common sense not typical cruise site. Four guys with rubber boat & fishing poles prob aren't there for your pole.

  • Got to agree with a previous poster that this isn't a very cruisy spot. You would look pretty silly just sitting in your car here.

    I highly doubt the increased security article has anything to do with cruising activity or cruise. Splitrock is getting a lot of activity lately requiring more security.

    That said, maybe I'll drive through the parking lot on my way home from work once in a while and see if anyone is hanging out.

  • The article was the banner headline in the Aug. 29 Daily Record. The reservoir and area around it is not public property but owned by Jersey City as a water supply. Others have dumped cars and beer cans etc. Rockaway is seeking an agreement with Jersey City to bust on that property. The United Water company may add a security patrol and specifically mentions the area around the damn. cruise postings are probably secondary if that, but just a heads up that this spot was THE headline topic on Tuesday.

  • i think that it will be a while before anytown spends money on security for a deserted area. amazing that security is being increased just when one or two postings show up on cruise. they can't arrest you for being in a public space.
    what day was the article in the record?

    bf-how about some additional infor on your profile. hard to get service when there is no info and you don't get email.

  • Daily Record headline this morning: Increased Security at Split Rock. Jersey City owns the land, so Rockaway cops can't prosecute unless Jersey City goes to court. Rockaway is seeking an agreement from Jersey City for police powers there. Jersey City may add full time security, including the damn area. Sounds like they read cruise as well!! Be careful.
