Where exactly

From Highway 220 take the Bassett, VA exit onto State Highway 57 West, stay on State Highway 57 West for approximately 6 miles to Philpott Dam Road (look for Philpott Dam brown directional sign) turn right, go one mile to the Philpott Park entrance.

Cruisiest spot: Around the restrooms at the overlook. Down in the woods behind the restrooms.

When to go

8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Best times: From noon until 8pm.

Etiquette

Lookout for the clean-up crew they check the restrooms periodically. Sit in last and tap foot if interested. Then meet down in the woods. On the trail leading away from the restrooms.

Watch out for the rangers patroling the area
