About
Protest, Rally and Speak out!
In the wake of the recent election results, there has been a drastic spike in hate crimes nationally and on campus. This is a clear indication that right wing forces and individuals feel emboldened enough to attack LBGTQ2+, Muslims, Undocumented individuals, women, and students of color on campus. At least two reported attacks against Muslim women on campus, in addition to the racist graffiti spotted around campus.
With the fear and anxiety growing on campus, it has effected the education and overall wellbeing of students.
At this time we are also seeing a historical rise in Native resistance, most notably being catalyzed by the #NODAPL movement. Native people are now victims of the racism being perpetuated by Trump, and with his investments in Dakota access as well as his recent comment indicating that he will back the revival of Keystone XL, we know that he and his supports do not value Native life and land
This is a call to action to mobilize against those who wish to do us harm at a time when we feel fractured and disempowered. We will show strength in unity and show these hateful right wing forces that the violent rhetoric of Trump will not suppress our resistance. It is unacceptable that the University has done so little to ensure the protection of students. This is a National call to action to make sure that our campuses are safe. Let’s make it clear that white supremacy, Anti-Indianism, sexism, homo/transphobia, and bigotry of all kinds are not tolerated at UNM! This is OUR campus now let us TAKE IT BACK!
