Gay São Paulo: Saunas, Bars, Pride and Safety

São Paulo has gay saunas in Consolação, Pinheiros, Higienópolis, the Centro Histórico and Brás. Same-sex relations are legal in Brazil, the 30th Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ took place on Avenida Paulista on 7 June 2026, and street Carnival in 2027 runs 6-9 February.

Gay saunas and bars in São Paulo

São Paulo's gay saunas (saunas gays) are in Consolação, Pinheiros, Higienópolis, Santa Cecília, Brás and the Centro Histórico.

In Consolação, Top Man (Rua Marquês de Paranaguá 363) opens daily 14:00-22:00, and Eagle São Paulo (Rua Augusta 620) opens Wed-Thu 19:00-02:00, Fri-Sat 19:00-05:00 and Sun 19:00-02:00. Thermas Le Rouge 80 in Pinheiros (Rua Arruda Alvim 175) opens Mon-Thu 14:00-21:00 and Fri-Sun 14:00-22:00. Wild Thermas Club in Higienópolis (R. Dr. Veiga Filho 802) opens Mon-Thu 14:00-23:00, Fri 14:00-05:00 and Sat-Sun 14:00-23:00.

When to go

The 2027 street Carnival runs 6-9 February 2027, with Pré-Carnaval on 30-31 January and Pós-Carnaval on 13-14 February. 741 blocos are registered, against 630 at the last edition. The UK government warns that criminals target large celebrations such as Carnival in Brazil.

The 30th Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ took place on Sunday 7 June 2026 on Avenida Paulista. It was free, and the gathering (concentração) started at 10:00.

São Paulo's gay bars are in Consolação, Santa Cecília, Barra Funda and the centre.

Aloka Club is at R. Frei Caneca 916. Bar Queen is in Santa Cecília at Rua Vitória 826. Blue Space is a bar in Barra Funda at Rua Brigadeiro Galvão 723, and Ursound is a bar in the centre at Rua João Adolfo 126.

Safety for LGBTQ+ visitors

Brazil has no law against same-sex sexual activity, and same-sex marriage is legal (UK government foreign travel advice, updated October 2026). On 13 June 2019 Brazil's Supreme Federal Court ruled 8-3 that discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is a crime under Law 7716 of 1989.

The UK government calls Brazil generally tolerant but says society is more conservative outside major cities, with reports of discrimination, violence and harassment against LGBT+ people; urban areas are usually more accepting. It says São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro hold large, usually peaceful Pride events. The US State Department says violence against gay and lesbian individuals remains a significant concern.

The US State Department (Level 2, increased caution, issued 25 May 2026) says violent crime including armed robbery can occur in urban areas day and night, and that foreigners are targeted through bars and dating apps, where victims may be drugged and robbed, especially in Rio de Janeiro. The UK government advises not to resist attackers, to avoid expensive jewellery and watches, large sums of cash and using a phone in the street, and to call local police on 190.

Getting around

São Paulo's metro ran a 24-hour weekend trial on lines 1-Azul, 2-Verde, 3-Vermelha and 15-Prata, which began on Saturday 6 December 2025 and was extended by six months in March 2026.

The UK government says robberies are common in many Brazilian cities, particularly on buses, and that thieves often target mobile phones between 4pm and 9pm.
