Tucson’s long-awaited return of Pepe Aguilar, the multiple Grammy award-winning music icon, will take place on April 2, 2016. The omni-talented international singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and father of the heirs (Angela and Leonardo) to the Aguilar Dynasty’s musical legacy, will perform songs from his over 23 albums recorded. During his career of over 20 years, Pepe has sold over 13 million albums, awarded six Grammy’s and three Latin Grammy’s plus other countless industry awards. It will be an unforgettable evening with Pepe and his Mariachi Zacatecas, orchestra and sinaloense style band performing ranchera, banda, norteño and international pop songs. In 2014, the Grammy Museum announced its Pepe Aguilar…La Leyenda Continúa (The Legend Continues) exhibition portraying him, one of the most awarded Mexican artists in history. For Pepe, finding a place in the world was not difficult. He is the son of Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, the Mexican superstars who performed around the world for millions of fans, including presidents and kings. The balance between entertainment and business came naturally, in an organic way…it was nurtured. “Born and raised while my family was on tour and having studied my craft during years on the road gave me a very particular career philosophy,” Pepe explained with the same humility and honesty that characterizes his songs and life. In 2015, Pepe’s platinum level album, Pepe Aguilar MTV Unplugged, was nominated for the Latin Grammy’s Album of the Year. Pepe expressed his joy and gratitude through Twitter, “This project represent(ed) a great opportunity to return to my essence and expose it to my fans while allowing me to work with a talented group of colleagues for whom I have great respect and admiration.” Proceeds in part will benefit academic scholarships for Los Changuitos Feos de Tucson, regarded as the first youth mariachi group in the United States.
